I admit it. My children watch too much TV. I can’t wait until it warms up a bit and I can send the kids outside. But until then, my kids are inside and the television is often on. I’d like to tell you it’s all educational. And actually, for the most part it is. But even the Science Channel runs commercials.
My kids have always been extra susceptible to commercials. I came to this realization slowly. I remember years ago pushing my daughter, then 3 years old, through the supermarket while she explained to me why I needed each product. “If you use that mom, you’ll never have to clean your shower again.” She’d quote commercials word for word. I didn’t know if I should be impressed or appalled.
My kids don’t just notice products for moms. Oh no. They pick out the toys they want for their birthdays months in advance—all thanks to commercials. You know, the stuff they just have to have. Bendaroos and a doll that uses the potty are the most recent.
It’s getting worse. They’ve moved beyond commercials and onto infomercials. I hope they’re not the only children drawn in by each new incredible offer. I fear they might be. They’ve been wooed by the Snuggie, the Fushigi Magic Gravity Ball, and most recently, Easy Feet, a hands-free foot scrub brush.
For Christmas I received a Yoshi Blade. My 3 year old immediately recognized the knife from TV and went crazy. Last week I broke the knife out and gave it a whirl on some fruit. My son was right by my side in awe. As I stood there chopping away with my new ceramic knife, he would not stop talking. He gave me a complete rundown of the Yoshi Blade, reenacting the infomercial. “That’s the sharpest knife in the world mom! You can cut metal and then a tomato! That’s so cool! You’re so cool! Be careful with your fingers mom. That’s the sharpest knife in the world.” He knew all about the product and was obeying all the product’s rules. The Yoshi Blade had his complete attention-not an easy feat. Very interesting. The Yoshi Blade was onto something.
Maybe the strategy to success as a mother lies in the infomercial. What we need are infomercials to solve real mom problems. I don’t need a hands-free foot scrub brush or a magic ball that defies gravity. But I do need the kids to eat all their dinner, let their baby brothers sleep, and clean up their toys when they’re done with them.
Maybe my infomercial could go something like this: One-of-a-kind, magic dinner plate that every kid wants and every mom must have! This enchanting plate makes all vegetables appear has candy! What child can’t resist vegetables disguised as candy!
Or, my personal favorite “momfomercial”: Introducing the amazing Toy Zapper! A revolutionary device that helps children of all ages pick-up all the toys in their room at lightening speed!
Where are those infomercials? And, if they were on TV would my kids be as impressed with a lightening-fast Toy Zapper? Probably Not.

Mason’s really getting the hang of using a spoon. He ate a lot of his bananas last night.
An hour later I was holding him and noticed hives all over his head, face and hands. Dang!
I’m no doctor but my mommy detective skills leads me to believe he’s allergic to bananas. Interesting. I didn’t know about such an allergy.
Turns out there are two different kinds of banana allergies. A latex-fruit allergy and oral allergy syndrome. I’m not sure which kind Mason has.
There is also the fact that Mason is an identical twin. Is Davis also allergic? From what I read quickly last night, only about 65% of identical twins with allergies share the allergy. Also interesting.
I’ve come to one conclusion: It’s bananas! B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

It’s {past} time for another edition of my Mommy Must Have List!
Since I’ve been pregnant, it seems friends pregnant with twins are coming out of the woodwork! Maybe it’s the New Car Phenomenon-who knows. Either way, I’m often getting phone calls for a little advice. This is a shout-out to all of those pregnant twin moms. Things a Mommy Must Have while pregnant with twins.
Smoothies
In the beginning, I had bad food aversions. But anything cold and fruits and veggies always sounded good. My solution: smoothie every morning.
Here’s a receipe for one of my favs:
1 cup of frozen mixed berries (strawberries, mangos and pineapple are good too!)
1/2 cup of milk
1/2 cup of orange juice
1/2 cup yogurt
1 scoop of vanilla protein powder
Support Brace
My brace was far from sexy. They did try to add a little bow and some lace to the front. Ha! Like that’s going to work! Who feels sexy when your belly’s the size of a planet! There’s not enough lace in the world…
The support brace did make a difference in my comfort level though. I found mine here.
A Count-Down, err…Count-Up!
As you may recall, I refused to count down to the end of my pregnancy. At least until my mom made me this darling diaper count-down chain. So whether you choose to count up or down, a cute diaper chain is so much fun!
A Sense of Humor
I’m pretty sure no one has ever survived a multiple pregnancy without a great sense of humor! Laughing at yourself is the only solution. Remind yourself how funny it is that both babies have the hiccups at the same time. Remind yourself how funny it is that you can’t do the dishes because you can’t reach the faucet. Remind yourself…every day remind yourself.
Here I am, 33 weeks pregnant with my twins, chasing my 2-year-old boy around at the luncheon after my grandmother’s funeral. I wish I could tell you how funny I thought the situation was at the time. A sense of humor could have really helped!

My babies recently celebrated their half birthday. Six months! Can hardly believe it. I had high hopes of making them cupcakes for the occasion but that didn’t happen. Thought counts, right? (OK, maybe the cupcakes would’ve been for me anyway).
Anyway, the boys are doing so well! Davis is 14.8 lbs and Mason is 15.6 lbs. Can you tell the boys like to eat? Actually Davis has recently decided he no longer likes to nurse. Good thing we do lots of bottles around here. We’ve just started baby food. The boys still need some practice though. Most of the food ends up all over their faces.
They are great babies. How could I do this if they weren’t? It’s like they were born with patience their older siblings are still trying to learn.
They smile and giggle and get so excited to see me! They love to play and be tickled. There is nothing better than TWO babies laughing at the same time!

I love our home. Fell in love with it as soon as I walked in the door with our Realtor over two years ago. But I even knew then we could outgrow this place. We’re here to stay for awhile but, with the addition of twins, we sure are busting at the seems and are still saving up to finish the basement (seems being a Mommy Blogger is not that lucrative).
When we brought our tiny little boys home they fit so nicely in the crib in the corner of our master bedroom. Our tiny little boys are not so tiny anymore and we need a second crib. I promise you there is no way TWO cribs are going to fit into the corner of our bedroom.
So, on the eve of their 6-month birthday, we moved the twins out of our room and into their own. It sounds so easy, doesn’t it! But it wasn’t. It meant we had to displace our territorial 3-year-old son who already had his world turn upside down six months ago when our little monkeys were born.
My 3-year-old is a night ninja and sneaks into our bed nearly every night anyway. His toddler bed sits in a room all by its’ self night after night. This just couldn’t go on. I did the best to prep him. I’m a public relations major, I know a thing or two about spinning a situation. The propaganda went a little like this:
Mom: “I have an AWESOME idea!”
Cam: “What?”
Mom: “Let’s move your bed into my room so you can sleep with us EVERY night. We’ll even share our TV with you.”
Cam: “Yea, that’s a good idea.”
I did also have to sweeten the deal with some cool dinosaur sheets from Target.
So the change has been made. We’ll have the second crib soon. The boys love their new room. I love that I can shut the door and let them cry it out at night. We do still have lots of toys in that room and I had to make a door sign to ward off all jealous siblings. So far, so good.
So far, Cameron is still happy about the change!

Multiples and More: Question of the Week
What keeps you up at night?
My twins! The boys are 5 1/2 months old and we are still trying to get some sleep at night. We’ve tried some sleep training but aren’t having much success. They can sleep well but never both do on the same night. Is it me? Is it them? Who knows.
Someday again soon I’ll sleep all–night–long. Right?

Every Monday I grab my trusty little dry erase board and jot down my To-Do list for the day. I give it a final glance and I sigh.

The list is intended to be the things that need to be done soon: laundry, kitchen floor, pay bills, make doctor’s appointment. You get the idea.
But I’ve noticed a trend. For weeks now my To-Do list for Monday hasn’t been completed until Friday, at best.
So, rather than fell guilty about this, I’m changing my perspective. My list is now a general To-Do list meant for ANY day of the week and I’ll celebrate as I mark off each item…regardless of how long it took me to do so.

Night four of sleep training the twins was a blur. Davis had a stuffy nose and was up a lot. I think Mason slept well. Who knows.
Night five went well. It seems my boys bed time is about 11 to 11:30 pm. We put them down drowsy and there was hardly any crying before they went to sleep. Mason slept 3 hours, ate, then slept 6 hours. Davis slept 6 hours, ate, then slept 3 hours. Good for the boys. Not so good for me. I was still up every 3 hours.
Last night I didn’t feel well and just managed to get through it. Who slept when and for how long? I have no idea.
I am here to pose a new question: who are we really training here? Mom or the twins?
